Simultaneity- In the same moment, Offred is resting her head on the tub because she is hurt and Serena is sobbing on the floor waiting for a pregnancy test results. They're both hurting for different reasons, Serena more emotionally and Offred more physically. The scene jump cuts between the two of them. You can note how they're both in the same position kneeling with their heads down. I feel that this was done on purpose. I feel like they did this so you would feel bad for both of them even though Serena is in the wrong. Its supposed to show her perspective of the situation.

Parallelism- This scene is "the kick". All three scenes are happening at the same time. You can tell because of the music that can be heard in all three dream states. Its supposed to show the intensity of the scene. Even though it is happening at the same time, time is passing differently for every dream state. The one with the van falling into the water being the slowest. Even though they are in different dreams they will all feel the kick that the van hitting the water will bring.

Leit Mottif_ These are from four different James Bond movies. Every time a James bond does the scene the music plays in the background. There is very little variance in the music. When you hear this music you automatically think "James Bond" as it is exclusive to him and spy films. The music is classy but also creates a sense of action which is perfect for the bond franchise,
